Factors to consider when buying a Pc or Laptop.

What Should A Student in Applied Psychology Consider When Buying A Pc Or Laptop.

What should people consider when buying a PC or Laptop? Well as a student there are many factors to take into when buying a PC or Laptop. The most obvious factor to take into account is:

Where and When will you be using it?
As a student you would need to bring it to and from college. Now obviously dragging a Pc into college isn’t exactly a good idea, which makes a Laptop the best choice for a student in my course. Also if you get a Pc it means you have to sit at a desk or table when using it. If you use a laptop however, you can use it while relaxing on the couch or in bed which makes it way more comfortable!

Also a student must consider the weight of the Laptop. There is no point buying a Laptop that is too heavy and won’t be carried around. Try and look out for a laptop that has all the features you need, but is also as light as possible.

The next factor is the second thing that springs to a student’s mind;

Price.
Money for most students is pretty much non-existent! To get the best kind of laptop you can it’s going to cost a small fortune! When buying a Laptop, you need to have a price range for yourself. Shopping around is so important, because you don’t want to pay €700 on a Laptop in Pc World, when you could of gotten it for €650 in Harvey Norman!

The next factor you have to consider is what you’re going to be using the Laptop for.

What Will the laptop be used for?
If you’re only going to be using it for internet and Microsoft word for example there is no point spending a lot of money on a laptop that can play all high-spec games. If you are in a creative course, Like us in our Multimedia Module, you need to have a laptop that has the means to use programs such as Adobe.

Wireless Connection.
Internet connection is very important for people in our course. Different Assignments and lectures are available online, so it is important to have a laptop that can connect to wireless internet if that is the internet available. It is handy to have the wireless connection on a laptop because in college there is wireless accessibility available to us.

Store Warranty/ Manufacturers Guarantee.
Probably not a factor that springs to mind. From my own personal experience I have found that you need to buy a Laptop somewhere that if something does go wrong with it, the store is helpful. A Laptop does so much and has so much software, it is likely something will go wrong. So again shop around and find a store that will give you a good warranty on your laptop.

Battery

Battery life is really important to think about! People need to get laptops within their price range with the best battery possible. Imagine how bad it would be if you didn’t have your charger with you and you’re battery runs out? It would not be good.

Memory
When buying a laptop you must consider how much memory you’re going to need. Generally the more memory the better! You’re going to have a lot of files to save on it, so you need to get a big memory based laptop in order to be able to hold all those files without having a space issue! Having a good size RAM is important.

Reviews
Make sure to read what people who actually have the laptop have to say about it. If you like a laptop look up what problems or lack of problems people who have used it have to say about it. This way you’re getting first hand advice about the Laptop and it may influence your decision on wither to buy it or not.

When I joined Applied Psychology these were the factors I took in account when buying my Laptop. I think they are the most important factors.
